Industry Survey on Re-Roofing Business Activity Needs Info from Contractors and Consultants

A leading coalition of roofing associations is continuing the Quarterly Market Index Surveys, designed to provide a barometer of the industry’s business conditions. The one-of-a-kind poll follows a successful effort that started in 2021, drawing on the views of contractors and roof consultants, who are then provided with exclusive access to the results. The survey can be completed in less than 5 minutes and includes questions on materials installed, customer inquiries, project contracts, and project backlogs. Roofing professionals can report their business conditions from the 2024 1st quarter results in the Survey for Reroofing at and submit responses through April 15th.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone in the roofing business to contribute to our knowledge about the industry, and to have access to that knowledge once the survey is complete,” said Ellen Thorp, Executive Director of the EPDM Roofing Association, speaking on behalf of the coalition. “We encourage all of our roofing contractor and roof consultant colleagues to participate. The more responses, the better the results, the more we will all learn.”

This year’s survey launch builds on the momentum of the coalition’s past efforts that measured perceptions of business activity every quarter since January 2021. An average of 220 respondents have completed the survey over the past three years. Generally speaking, two-thirds of the responses came from roofing contractors and one-third were submitted by roof consultants. The results have generally indicated that despite the pandemic, material shortages, labor shortages, and worries of a recession over the past three years, opportunities in the reroofing industry have improved or held steady when compared with business in the same quarter of the previous year. A brief summary of the most recent results can be viewed here.

The survey is an industry-wide effort to collect information about the reroofing market spearheaded by a coalition of trade associations, including the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association, Canadian Roofing Contractors Association, Chemical Fabrics & Film Association Inc., EPDM Roofing Association, International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants, Metal Construction Association, National Roofing Contractors Association, National Women in Roofing, Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers Association, Single Ply Roofing Industry, and media partner RoofersCoffeeShop.
