ERA Supports White House Initiative to Modernize Building Codes
Earlier this week, the White House announced a National Initiative to Advance Building Codes which will modernize building codes, improve climate resilience, and reduce energy costs. It is a major commitment by the Biden-Harris Administration in addition to the legislation that has been passed through the infrastructure law to provide technical assistance and funding for upgrading buildings to meet the most recent building codes. ERA is consistently messaging and supporting actions and measures in Washington that accelerate the funding for high performance and resilient buildings. Specifically, ERA has been part of several coalitions focused on these federal issues, signed onto letters as part of the coalitions, and also participated in briefings with the Business Council of Sustainable Energy of Administration and Congressional staff.
Of course, the really exciting part will come from tracking the states and municipalities that update their building codes to make sure they don’t include automatically adopt cool roof mandates, and also investigating the buildings in the federal building portfolio that advance “above-code” resilience aspects in new projects.
