The Best in EPDM Roofing 2026 Awards
In 2026, the EPDM Roofing Association launched the inaugural Best in EPDM Roofing Awards, designed to recognize outstanding EPDM roofing projects across the United States. Individuals were invited to submit their projects across seven different categories: industrial/warehouse, office, retail, hospitality, institutional, multi-family housing, and primary and secondary schools.
From the submissions, ERA recognized nine EPDM standout projects as 2026 award winners. Explore the winning entries below:
Outstanding Roof Installed Within the Past Three Years
Alerus Center

Installation year: 2024
About the roof: The Alerus Center, a nearly 300,000-square-foot football and events venue, underwent a complex roof replacement across 20 roof sections while remaining fully operational. Completed through a two-year collaboration between Elevate Commercial Roofing Systems and Herzog Roofing, the project utilized a fully adhered 90-mil EPDM roofing system to provide exceptional durability, weather resistance, and a clean appearance for the arena’s barrel roof. Despite challenging weather conditions and an active event schedule, the project was completed on time and within budget, while sustainability efforts, including repurposing removed insulation rather than sending it to a landfill, helped reduce environmental impact. Outstanding Longevity

Installation year: 1993
About the roof: Originally installed in 1993, this roofing system features a fully adhered 45-mil Firestone (now Elevate) EPDM membrane over mechanically attached rigid board insulation secured with 16 fasteners per board. Now more than 30 years old, the roof continues to provide reliable protection, with the membrane remaining intact across the field of the roof and around rooftop equipment and skylights. Unique Application
Chapel of the Risen Christ

Installation year: 2025
About the roof: The Chapel of the Risen Christ is an 8,000-square-foot church featuring a highly complex roof design defined by sweeping curves, elliptical forms, and continuous radius parapet walls rather than traditional straight lines and corners. To accommodate the unique geometry, the project incorporated a fully adhered 60-mil EPDM roofing system over R-30 polyisocyanurate insulation and a cover board, requiring precise membrane layout, flashing, and adhesion techniques to ensure a seamless installation. Ponderosa Elementary School

Installation year: 1991
About the roof: Installed in 1991, the original 45-mil ballasted EPDM roofing system at Ponderosa Elementary School has delivered 35 years of dependable service. As seen today, the ballasted EPDM system remains intact and functional around rooftop equipment, underscoring the exceptional longevity and proven performance of EPDM roofing systems with quality installation and routine maintenance. Lincoln High School

Installation year: 2025
About the roof: Lincoln High School is a public high school serving approximately 1,400 students in grades 9–12 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Crafts Roofing completed the replacement project during the summer of 2025, working within a tight schedule to ensure the new roof was ready for the start of the 2025–2026 school year. The project included 47,500 square feet of 60-mil adhered Johns Manville EPDM roofing across nine roofs, along with custom sheet metal designed to complement the school’s historic architecture. Through careful planning and efficient execution, the team completed the work within the limited summer window while minimizing disruption to the school community and preserving the character of the 100-year-old building.

Navy Foundry and Propeller Center

Installation year: 2018
About the roof: The Navy Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC), a facility dedicated to designing, manufacturing, and repairing propellers for the U.S. Navy, underwent a roof replacement that included removing the existing gravel-surfaced built-up roof and installing new polyisocyanurate insulation with a durable 90-mil Carlisle EPDM membrane. MJ Dalsin Storage Facility

Installation Year: 2025
About the roof: The MJ Dalsin Storage Facility features a high-performance commercial roofing system designed to provide long-term durability and protection for the company’s expanded storage operations. The 36,000-square-foot facility is topped with a heavy-duty Johns Manville roofing system incorporating three layers of 2.6-inch polyisocyanurate (ISO) insulation and a fully adhered 60-mil non-reinforced EPDM rubber membrane. The multi-layer assembly provides robust thermal performance and weather protection while supporting the facility’s large-scale commercial use. Integrated rooftop HVAC and drainage equipment were incorporated into the roofing design, creating a cohesive system built to perform reliably while protecting the materials and inventory stored below.

Installation year: 2026
About the roof: The project involved removing five layers of modified bitumen roofing from a tongue-and-groove wood deck while preserving the exposed underside, as required by the building’s new architectural design. To avoid penetrating the wood deck with mechanical fasteners, two-part foam adhesive was used to install two layers of Polyiso insulation, followed by a fully adhered 60-mil Carlisle EPDM membrane. The resulting roofing system delivers long-term performance while supporting the building’s energy needs in a heating-dominated climate and promoting snow melt on its distinctive multi-barrel roof. Dell Technologies

Installation year: 2025-2026
About the roof: The 270,000-square-foot roofing project at Dell’s three-story manufacturing facility involved replacing the existing EPDM roof with a high-performance assembly designed for long-term durability and future solar integration. After recycling the existing roofing materials, the new system was installed with multiple protective layers, including a thermal barrier, air and vapor barrier, R-30 polyisocyanurate insulation, and a fully adhered Carlisle EPDM membrane.
