At a recent briefing on Capitol Hill, three experts — the mayor of Pittsburgh, a sustainability manager from Flagstaff, AZ and a program manager from the National League of Cities — weighed in on developing and implementing a resiliency strategy.

The lesson: Don’t let the theoretical block plans. The theoretical can enhance plans. Once a project or initiative that meets the criteria of sustainability and resiliency, Cooper Martin, program director for the Sustainable Cities Institute at the National League of Cities, added, it’s likely that there’s a “built in” cost benefit analysis — which could speed up further project planning.
